The carpark should never have been approved, but it's cost saving in the government's eyes because the alternative was going underground (similar to the RAH) and they would have added time and expense onto the overall budget. Still, it should have been done that way. The solution will be an eyesore and there doesn't appear to have been any attempt to make it look better than what it will be.ChillyPhilly wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2025 3:48 pmWhat will be a hideous carpark is the biggest dealbreaker for me.Spotto wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2025 2:56 pmThough I’m still questioning whether this was the right choice or not, the argument of “taking more parklands” feels like a fallacy.
The footprint of the nWCH is very similar to the land occupied by the Police Barracks, the main difference being the new multi-storey parking between Gaol Road and the rail corridor.
If you’re replacing developed land with differently developed land inside the same footprint, you’re not “taking more parklands”.

This is a tricky site to get photos of due to the size and location but here's a few quick snaps from this evening.

Seen from the train this morning:
It'll be interesting to commute past the site as it progresses.

Cores are going up, and work on a ramp is visible.
This is going to be one hideous project.

They could cover the Port Road facing side with a 'green' wall like the arches on the AO western stand?

Yep, and they are best to do it on the rail side as well.rev wrote:The carpark?ChillyPhilly wrote: ↑Tue Apr 15, 2025 8:12 amCores are going up, and work on a ramp is visible.
