You are referring to flights to Kuala Lumpur.
It's good news though, Jetstar currently have the monopoly with flights to Bali. Hopefully Virgin will recommence flights soon.
Good news for those wanting to fly on the cheap into SE Asia, but remember low cost means bugger all luggage and no full service. Virgin now with the aid of Qatar will concentrate on those flights, but of course competition is what we all want to keep fares low.

Mmmh. You'd think maybe something to Bangkok but they have never really showed interest. I think AAL will continue with the Japanese and Indians first. Another airline that we should also be pursuing is China Eastern (Shanghai). Enormous market!

Yes they did and I think it was a KL flight, which didn't last very long. The check in area was on the ground level where the current National Jet check in area is.

Pretty ballsy move to take on Jetstar to Bali, who I'm sure could absorb a price war on that route.

That was Air Asia X, different. Air Asia X is the long haul airline in Malaysia.

Air Asia Indonesia is a short-haul airline used in that region for mostly small hops to different countries.

Vietjet are coming back to Adelaide in the future with an a330, direct to Ho Chi Minh City.

Cathay will be back as soon as they have new parts for their aircraft that was stored in the outback, they are not fit to fly yet.

Coming back on either a330/a350-900/a350-1000

Probably next year at the earliest.

Seems alot of activity at the moment attracting new airlines
. Could be in for a massive 6-12 months of international flights incoming

This makes you wonder, when will Terminal 1 be extended? How many more international airlines do we need before something happens in this regard? So if we get a Japanese airline and an Indian airline in the next 24 months, plus maybe one or two more from SE Asia, and don't forget the return of Cathay Pacific sometime in 2026 (no bookings showing up on Cathay's online reservation system or on the GDS for 2025) how much lead time do they need?

According to Google AI, the major shareholders in Adelaide Airport Limited are superannuation funds. How do you propose they would maintain their funds while paying to establish a new airport on state government land?

I wonder what percentage of passenger end-of-trip journeys are from/to the CBD? The current location is equally balanced between northern and southern suburbs. What benefits are there to moving the airport north? Your stats show it's about the same size, three minutes longer travel time on a freeway from the closest corner than the current terminal building on a suburban arterial to the corner of the CBD.

What would be the purpose of moving the airport to Dry Creek?
What would be the benefit? Will it be able to operate for longer hours instead of the 6am-11pm curfew at the current airport site?
Would it save any substantial time for freight?
Would it likely impact operations out of Parafield and the RAAF base and vice versa? Parafield airport is the third busiest airport in Australia.

All it will do is shift the aircraft noise problem to another part of town.

Not that it will happen in our life times (but i guess you can't rule it out 100% given how much money our governments waste), moving both AA and Parafield out of the metropolitan area would be the best option.
I think without a curfew it will open up more opportunities particularly with exports.

Parafield also has a curfew. Edinburgh does not, but maybe because of much lower traffic, as people still complain.

GlobeLink proposed either expanding Murray Bridge Airport or building a new one with no curfew, but instead of seeing the long term benefits, it was canned as it isn't necessary now.

Much as the much-panned MATS Plan has evolved and being built 30-60 years later, maybe the key components of GlobeLink will also be built in time, starting with stage 1 of the road component, but now it's a "Good Idea" proposed by the other side of politics.

A number of "global cities" have a commuter airport close to the city as well as a bigger airport further out of town. If the international flights were moved to a new airport a long way from the Adelaide CBD, we'd probably keep West Beach for flights to Mount Gambier, Port Lincoln, Melbourne, Mildura, the new airport, FIFO workers and Flying Doctors (the latter already fly through curfew hours).

Plenty of cities have moved airports away from the city centre. Hong Kong had Kai Tak, Singapore had Kallang, now replaced with wonderful new facilities well connected to the city centre.

The same could easily be done in Adelaide, the cost could be managed where the existing land is largely an existing salt pan, it wouldn't be massively difficult to connect to a train line, and costs associated with building the new facilities could be offset by selling off land at the existing airport, an area around as big as the Adelaide CBD located between the city and the sea (as the West Torrens council slogan says). Plus the increase in rates and land taxes in surrounding suburbs where the noise is removed.

I'm not saying it will happen overnight, but at some point in years to come, the arguments in favour of will become much louder.
