$20bn minimum. I don’t think we’d even get that if the current airport land was sold for housing development.

But really really should pursue globelink or something similar. Take gather around for example we are in the middle of the country centre of the country were the perfect place for a major air trade hub.

From Adelaide Airport Instagram:

Adelaide is set to become the first city in the @emirates network to receive the long-range Airbus A350.

Operating flights EK440 and 441, Emirates' A350 features three travel classes, accommodating 312 passengers in 32 next-generation Business Class lie-flat seats, 21 Premium Economy seats and 259
Economy Class seats.

The most fuel-efficient large widebody aircraft in commercial service today, Emirates' Airbus A350-900ULR can stay in the air for up to 15 hours non-stop, with a range of nearly 18,000km. *

Catch the A350 at Adelaide Airport from 1st December 2025

Adelaide Airport managing director Brenton Cox said: “We’re excited that Emirates has chosen Adelaide as its first global destination to welcome the new Airbus A350-900ULR, offering more seats, more cabin choice and longer range than the current Boeing 777-200LR. The introduction of Premium Economy seats is a significant upgrade and we think will prove very popular with South Australian travellers. These new generation aircraft are a game changer because they are ideally suited for connecting Adelaide with cities around the globe due to their size and range.”

I think this will be the first airline with a Premium Economy product to fly out of Adelaide? Great news!

Interesting no one mentioned this visitor on Tuesday April 29th (from Auckland), see: hkgaviation and departed yesterday Friday May 2nd for Palau. Icelandair 1274 (Boeing 757-200) on a worldwide National Geographic tour.

Cheers

I'm so glad that my eyes weren't just seeing things, I flew in fro mMelbourne in Thursday and saw what I thought was a National Geo logo in the aircraft apron near the site of the old Adelaide Domestic Terminal. Great find!

Anyone know why tonight's (now yesterday's) QTR915/QR915 ADL-DOH flight was running nearly an hour late and flying to CMB (Bandaranaike International Colombo, Sri Lanka)?

I wonder (or hope, rather) this might be a stepping stone for Qantas announcing flights from Adelaide to New York (stop-over/re-fueling in Auckland)? Better yet, with United Airlines coming to Adelaide whether they might consider this as a secondary route? Seeing as Auckland are positioning themselves further as a link for AUS to the USA.

It has taken QANTAS a very long time to announce this as its first international flight from Adelaide and you are hoping for a stop-over? That would mean a wide-body and not a Boeing 737-800. As for flights to JFK: QANTAS (oneworld) have 4 flights a week; Air New Zealand (Star Alliance) 6 times a week. Take your pick.

Interesting choice, at least there's a bit of competition on that route now. The flight from Sydney to New York won't be stopping in Auckland much longer since it will be replaced with a direct flight once the A350-1000s arrive in 2027.

Fun fact, Qantas did fly this route already back about 20, 25 years ago.

I'm just trying to make sense of Qantas relaunching international flights from Adelaide with *this* route as I wouldn't think it as being that competitive, but I'm happy for someone with the knowledge on the topic to come at me on this.
