Will be great to have that carpark disappear from view.

I'm so exited for her to start rising. :D

One of my favorite designs going up in the city and so simple.

*applies Freud* Skyscrapers are very much phallic and therefore male. Any building is a projection of its architect and therefore also phallic in intent and therefore male.

Of course the introduction of female architects has upset this theory, but we could always look into the gender politics of a female architect surviving above the glass ceiling...

I became all a-quiver when you started talking about serious core action and foundation works.....

And to echo your intended sentiments, it is indeed very pleasing to see some more easily-noted progress.

Mmmmm, that's what I like to see, core action. Another great photo from Ben. Thanks again mate.

On a side note there is an article in today's afr in the property section talking about the tram line extension and increased development (I think in the south of the city). Then net version is only available to subscribers so I couldn't get to read all of it. Busy all day today so not sure if I will manage to get a copy. Sounds like an interesting read. Trust the afr to do an article on this and not the Advertiser, speaks volumes about our trash paper.

the article P40 Fin. Review.24/4/08

ADELAIDE HAS SEEN THE LIGHT
Adelaide's light rail extension has spurred development in what has been a neglected part of the city.

For a relatively modest $31m the 1.6km has come as south Adelaide's burgeoning resources sector is building optimism in the local economy.

The Property Council of Australia's SA executive director, Nathan Paine, said the extension has been a factor in the new Hill's Industries building.

The light rail has created significant interest in the southern part of KWS. It has opened the city right up. We would expect to see upward pressure on prices in that area.

The PCA wants further use of the light rail because SA's heavy rail network is deisel rather than electric.

'We are focussing on light rail using the existing infrastructure', Mr Paine said. 'We'd like to see it run down to Port Adelaide.

SA is already undertaking major road projects. Mr Paine said the recently started Northern Expressway would eventually boost the growing industrial sector to the north of the city.

There is already a great industrial area at Edinburgh Pk.Part of the reason for good industrial sites is, of course, transport access.

Mr. Paine said the north south corridor was another crucial project, and there were sizeable chunks od land in the south of the city. The closure of the Mitsubishi plant and the inoperational Mobil refinery at Pt Stanvac were two sites that would be watched closely.

The refinery ha been mothballed for a few years. We're waiting to see whether it will be re-opened as a refinery.
It is a deep sea port and has been mentioned as a possible place for a desalination plant.

NOTE - abbreviations mine.

NOTe also as a linked aside - AFR report on state growth in the next year -SA the only state to grow economically - at 3.6%. All the rest shrinking relative to the past 12 months. Interesting!

Not much new to most of us, but good to see the positive exposure of Adelaide nationally. Seems there is good support for more light rail and most interesting to see in print the link with trams and development in KWS Sth.

Even though SA is expected to grow faster economically compared to the previous 12 months, the rate of economic growth is still less than most states even though the rate of growth in other states is expected to slow. That would be the result of a sluggish 06/07 period for economic growth in SA, although I'd expect that the rate of economic growth in SA will continue to climb in the next few years. I think that article that skyliner refers to from the Tuesday AFR said that QLD's economic growth would slow from about 7.2% to about 5% IIRC.

It's great to see that several developers can see the opportunities that the new tram line extension and service provides for the southern CBD area, while so many other people fail to see its potential.
