NO NO NO. That's a RUBBISH idea. You are a STUPID person for suggesting any sort of changes to this BEAUTIFUL hospital that we have proposed. We are BETTER than you, which is why you are supposed to be NODDING IN AGREEMENT with our plans, and why we did not bother to ask for your SILLY views which are POORLY EDUCATED and NOT WORTH TOSH. I didn't see anyone adding boxes on their election papers labelled 'MR. SKYLINER' and then ticking them, so SHUT YOUR TRAP and leave the planning and design to ELECTED SUPER AWESOME PEOPLE LIKE US. NO MORE OPINIONS for you.skyliner wrote:Another option is to make the new hospital 20 - 40 stories and reduce it's footprint - then they could both feel happier. WHY does it have to be so low and sprawling? It takes up so much land it seems rediculous. Inner city land should be capitalising on the plot ratios suitable to a city. Return the rest to parks.

Boo hoo! You've cut me up! Go for it Omi! Put it somewhere else all together OMI and as many have suggested, make it an entertainment/sports precinct.

It's not sprawling, as far as hospital plans go it's a very good design (from what I've seen). Vertical hospitals don't work well. It's taking up less than half the railyards site leaving the rest for the reduced railline and the Torrens Lake park (it's good to have a nice park next to a hospital to help recovery and rehabilitation of patients. It's all very good.skyliner wrote:Another option is to make the new hospital 20 - 40 stories and reduce it's footprint - then they could both feel happier. So if you're going to criticise it, criticise it for the right reasons. That land is very good for a hospital. Too good, it could be put to a better civic use.
Great design, wrong location.

High rise hospitals are not a good idea. In case of emergencies, it would be very difficult to evacuate people stuck in beds from a skyscraper.

The problem with our current state government is that they are stubborn. If Mike Rann, (voters allowing, will stay Premier until 2018. My 65th Birthday) wants to stay in office, he really should try and include the public in projects that are going to have a long term effect on the city. The first time he screwed up with the hospital was when he named it after her excellency Majorie Jackson-Nelson (who BTW stopped being governor just a few months after the hospital was first brought up). The second time that he screwed up was when he ignored all the publicism being made about building an entertainment precinct on the railway yards site. The third time he screwed up was when he decided to go right ahead with the plans despite what had been said by the public about its opinion on the hospital's location.
Either he gets a bionic ear (or at least tries to listen to public opinion) OR he hands his position over to a more suitable leader within his government OR he goes right ahead with the hospital on the current site, despite obvious public opposition, only to find himself in the unemployment office during late 2010.
WAKE UP MIKEY!!!!!

I take back many of the things I said before 2010; particularly my anti-Rann rants. While I still maintain some of said opinions, I feel I could have been less arrogant. I also apologise to people I offended; while knowing I can't fully take much back.

Point taken, but it's a bit of an insult to all the doctors, etc who are the true heroes behind all the life-saving operations, etc, not an old woman who donated a whole lot of money to charity. Come on, if anyone else had the kind of money that she's received over the course of her life, they'd be donating a whole heap as well. But if it's so important that she is mentioned, name a ward or something after her, not the entire building, for goodness sake!

She was our Governor... you know the queen's agent in SA.adam73837 wrote:Point taken, but it's a bit of an insult to all the doctors, etc who are the true heroes behind all the life-saving operations, etc, not an old woman who donated a whole lot of money to charity. Let's see what the other hospitals are named after:
RAH - the queen
QEH - the queen
I see a pattern
Lyell McEwin - Minister of Health
We don't have a great track record of naming hospitals. But who cares! Build it! (maybe not on the railyards though )

I think a name should come from those who work at the hospital everyday. They'll probably come up with someone (or something) decent.

OK omi. I'd better explain myself. I don't want to misunderstand you as you have may have appeared to with me. Anyway, I have a great respect for many ideas you have spoken by the way. In the end it's all about our great city and state.
First, I have not seen floor plans of the hospital - just a render from a distance out to the NW.Looked very large - maybe parallax error. Hence the comment about size. I don't know of any plans to see here but could have missed them.
Second, That above suggestion was put if the two parties and councillor etc could not agree - a compromise on their ideas. I don't know of any hospitals 20 - 40 levels high and was having a go at them. I would not baulk at 10 or so on the Keswick site. (I drove past that every day in Adelaide and don't recall it as a really large site).
Third, they are still building hospitals up to around 10 floors high in Brisbane - capital of the SMART state mind you!
Fourth - what I think on this topiv is very similar to what most people have said through the thread.
As for the name - could do better - Eg The Mike Rann Hospital

If it is built and he's still the Premier, he'll be at the unveiling, and guess who's name will go on the open ceremony plaque?Düsseldorfer wrote:Maybe I and about a million others will probably end up calling it that anyway :pskyliner wrote: As for the name - could do better - Eg The Mike Rann Hospital
