I would love to see the tram system extended to particularly the inner suburban suburbs with redevelopment potential, like Kent town, Bowden Thebarton, Wayville, and Mile end. If we combine this with Kevin Foley’s vision for a higher density we could get some real vibrancy into the city.

The government is now looking for detailed design proposals for the design and construction of the first stage of the tram line extension to the Entertainment Centre.

From what resources I have found, the line should be finished sometime in 2010.

This is great! i'll happily jump on a tram to the CBD to visit a pub/club after attending a concert/show at the EC! Hopefully they align special tram services for this purpose...
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

To give you all an idea as to what is being done with this extension, 'Pressman" on Railpage some how managed to attend a DTEI conference at the end of June and this is what he found out.

City West (existing)

Bonython Park (Circus/Event site)

The junction of West & North Tces and Port Road is likely to have a major redevelopment as it is invisaged the New Hospital site will see the entry/exit of 10,000 vehicles daily.
DTEI's response to the question of the tramline continuing down Port Rd.
The Outer Harbor rail line already has all the level crossings to bring trains into the city very quickly. It is also hard to justify creating another rail corridor so close by. The trams will run down Port Rd to the Entertainment Centre to provide extra stops, and the park-and-ride facility.
The tram line will be designed to minimise impact of traffic capacity (Entertainment Centre to City West section)

Thanks for the scoop. I hope they re-visit the Morphett Street bridge single-track section, because with trams running though, this may become even more of a bottle-neck.
