where have all the patriotic aussie gone?
In the search of the patriotic Aussie
Patriotism built our fine country to a stage where it was the envy of the world, The Aussie digger was a formidable person, the name which arrived some time after the famous battle of the Eureka Stockade where life and limb were sacrificed for the humble right to a free vote, since that time Australians from many different cultures and backgrounds have stood shoulder to shoulder in the fight for a fair go, moulding our fine country in to the ultimate symbol of human rights, freedoms and liberty.
Over the past decades our patriotism has slowly diminished, as many attacks on our freedoms by our supposed elected governments have eroded all that was handed to our generation on a platter, Inground apathy has turned a majority of Australians into those that would rather just complain about what is happening rather than the thought of taking any action, and those patriots that attempt to keep up the fight are simply labeled with such names as loony’s, extremists, racists, left or right of politics and the like, to such a degree that standing up for the rights of the Australian citizen is done in silence by a minority whose exploits are kept silent by an ever empowered media whose job it seems is to support and in fact sway our choice of representation which further adds to their overall power in determining our countries future.
We regularly hear of friends and family that are ripped of or deceived in some way by either the less scrupulous business’s or government departments not to forget our banks and service suppliers, or finding them selves at the mercy of our unjust judicial systems like the family court, and yet they stand alone with out the much needed support we as Aussies should provide. It could easily be said that these organizations and courts can do anything they want without regard to any civil or human rights simply because “no one is watching”, do you honestly believe that such miscarriages of justice could so easily take place in a court room full of supporters?
Our only chance of fighting back has been reduced to our limited ability to vote in state and federal elections, yet many even justify the fact that they don’t even vote, It is some what understandable that this occurs as those with the most to gain from structural biases, the government write the electoral laws to suit their own agenda, leaving us with out any of the standard internationally accepted civil and human rights protections, because we have to have a preference for those we do not know or even those we oppose, couple this with a corrupted counting system (2 party preferred, preferred by the 2 parties) which disregards the most supported candidates in favor of the Labor or Liberal parties.
We live in the only democratic dictatorship in the world, and yet we simply by our inaction are accepting of the situation, givens these facts our forefathers that made all the sacrifices to provide so much for us must be turning in their graves.
If we continue in the same direction what will our children or grandchildren have to endure, all the plasmas and video games we feel the need to bestow on them will in no way provide them with the tools to take up the fight for their freedoms, and in expecting them to do what is rightfully our job shows a serious lack of foresight on our behalf.
So it is now our time to shine, to again become true Aussie patriots, whether it is simply flying the flag over our properties, standing up for our rights or shoulder to shoulder when a mate is in trouble, spending some time making an informed choice at election time, or even as far as backing up the candidate of your choice with support.
Attend court to support your family and friends, investigate wrong doings, pass on that great emails on Aussie courage, buy Australian whenever we can, and teach our children to do the same.
Those that went before us gave everything to tame this great land, so you are simply a disgrace to their hard work if you continue to sit back and let their sacrifices slip away in vain, we are all immortal as we are remembered by what we leave behind for future generations, so what will be your legacy?
I continue to fight for our rights and my children’s future, in the courts, as a candidate, for civil rights, our right to a free vote and in protest, I do my bit for our environment, native wildlife and study towards ideas for our long term future, and I am one of many whom you will never hear of because those that determine our future do not want my kind to become mentors to our children, because they prefer to promote apathy, because the apathetic are much easier to control, so when you have spare time or money, consider the many freedom fighters of this country, the great workers of institutions like the Red Cross, Salvation Army, support services for our returned soldiers, seek and you will find as there are many that give there all for those in need, because you can make a difference, be part of the cure, it simply feels great, and then you can honestly call your self AN AUSSIE PATRIOT. Aussie patriotism hasn’t died its just hidden from view and the time to fight is growing near, so use your voice to expose those hidden patriots, and again our country can take its rightful place as the best in the world once again, and our children will continue to keep it that way, if we as parents become the mentors they so rightfully deserve Aussie patriots.

Re: where have all the patriotic aussie gone?
Congratulations. You have gone from conspiracy theory to the most base of all attempts to appeal to the electorate; playing the nationalism card.
It's easy to negate anyone who opposes you. just call them "un-Australian".
Our forefathers went to war in the past in order to check rampant nationalism. And yet we have seen it rise to the fore again in recent times. "You're either for us or against us." ... "Please explain." ... "White power!"
From your posts here, it seems that you're not serious about becoming a politician to stand up for the people. It's becoming clear that your only intention is to get into power by any popularist means. Step back and have a long hard look at yourself. Your only apparent platform at the moment is "everyone is out to get me".

I love how he also sneaks in a swipe at the banks and promises a brighter future for our children. That's worth at least three extra points in Newspoll.
Re: where have all the patriotic aussie gone?
Mark, set a platform for yourself.
Who are you? What do you believe in? What can you do to better Australia? Don't become yet another compromised politician with an seriously bloated ego.
Maybe I'd listen if you actually set out policies and measures, rather than this negative 1500 word drone-ons about how un-Australian we are. Your negativity is highly un-Australian as you are criticizing rather than offering an alternative.

Re: where have all the patriotic aussie gone?
Returning to the original question: unlike America (where patriotism is built into everything) most Australian patriotism comes from one source: the QANTAS advertising budget. Unfortunately this moves patriotic Aussies overseas, so you need more of it to replace them. Unfortunately with the economic downturn, QANTAS had to cut its spending on advertising, so now there's a temporary shortage of patriotic Aussies.
But don't worry, the previous lot will be back soon - they still call Australia home!

I'd have a go at you, but honestly, that post was so utterly ignorant and misinformed that I'm having a hard time working out whether or not it's a joke.Mark Aldridge wrote:*insert garbage here* Voting is good. The people you voted for are bad. *insert garbage here*
Re: where have all the patriotic aussie gone?
The real patriotic Aussies are busy in Afghanistan and other trouble zones around the world serving our country trying to give hope and better future for others.
They aren't sitting on the Internet trying to play politician writing bullshit essays.
They aren't waiting around for Australia Day so they can bring out the Aussie flag and have a long weekend to get pissed over and party, not knowing what it is they should be remembering. These same drunken bogan hobos are the ones who trashed Anzac Cove after a concert. They were supposedly there to remember our fallen, instead they partied at a concert and left a sacred place looking like a rubbish dump.
If these IDIOTS feel so strongly about their country, why don't they join the ADF and SERVE their country since they are so proud and can't wait for that long weekend in January so they can have a piss up, and potentially end up making the ultimate sacrifice serving their country like eight Aussies have in Afghanistan. Let's see how proud these little shits are when faced with potential death. I doubt they'd even complete the basic training course let alone the pre-entry fitness tests.
I guess through all the booze they consume and all the speeding fines and loss of licenses+fines, they do help the economy with extra revnue.
I wonder how much crowd trouble(that will go 90% unreported by the media) there will be at the cricket today/tonight over on the old hill.

OK, I'll bite. This is mainly because if I ever was asked to show an example of 'meaningless pap', all I have to do is show a link to your post. This reply is kinda a tax on that wonderful service you have provided me.
You seem to have your history muddled here. The Eureka stockade took place before federation, and the phrase digger was first used in the context of the First World War. Your poetry on the diggers is misplaced. While they were originally heralded as being feared the world around, the diaries of a Mr Bean dispelled these myths- this was in the 1920s, I thought you would be aware of this. I am not discounting their actions- they were very heroic- but don't romanticise it, because it is war, and war is always ugly.Mark Aldridge wrote:In the search of the patriotic Aussie

There is a difference between those who would do something to fix things and those who are patriots. Would Packer be considered a patriot because he forged a media empire, or merely a businessman who was looking out for number one? I would firmly place him in the second category. This is not a criticism, but a recognition that he did well because of himself, not some weird idea of nationalism.Mark Aldridge wrote: Over the past decades our patriotism has slowly diminished, as many attacks on our freedoms by our supposed elected governments have eroded all that was handed to our generation on a platter, Inground apathy has turned a majority of Australians into those that would rather just complain about what is happening rather than the thought of taking any action, and those patriots that attempt to keep up the fight are simply labeled with such names as loony’s, extremists, racists, left or right of politics and the like, to such a degree that standing up for the rights of the Australian citizen is done in silence by a minority whose exploits are kept silent by an ever empowered media whose job it seems is to support and in fact sway our choice of representation which further adds to their overall power in determining our countries future.
Aww, he's making fun of the banks! How cute. Seeing that you will be going for an upper house seat, you will be able to take advantage of the proportional voting system that's afforded the upper house, one which allows small parties to gain seats. This doesn't exist in many other democracies.Mark Aldridge wrote: Our only chance of fighting back has been reduced to our limited ability to vote in state and federal elections, yet many even justify the fact that they don’t even vote, It is some what understandable that this occurs as those with the most to gain from structural biases, the government write the electoral laws to suit their own agenda, leaving us with out any of the standard internationally accepted civil and human rights protections, because we have to have a preference for those we do not know or even those we oppose, couple this with a corrupted counting system (2 party preferred, preferred by the 2 parties) which disregards the most supported candidates in favor of the Labor or Liberal parties.
I find the claim that Australia is a democratic dictatorship to be an insult. Ask the people of Zimbabwe what a democratic dictatorship is, and they will tell you. Also, nice appeal to the cliched conservative Australia by criticising the 'kids who spend all day on their xboxes'. Exactly what are you talking about, anyway? What "tools" do we need to "fight for their freedoms"? This is meaningless.Mark Aldridge wrote: We live in the only democratic dictatorship in the world, and yet we simply by our inaction are accepting of the situation, givens these facts our forefathers that made all the sacrifices to provide so much for us must be turning in their graves.

Flying flags and other symbols of nationalism have been used all over the world to blind people to evil dealings. The United States is a fine example of nationalism being constantly subverted so that people can get their way. The examples you provide are 'a person being nice', not 'Aussie patriot'. I think that when I help out my fellow man, it's because I'm not a dick, not because I happen to live under a flag with the Union Jack on it.Mark Aldridge wrote: So it is now our time to shine, to again become true Aussie patriots, whether it is simply flying the flag over our properties, standing up for our rights or shoulder to shoulder when a mate is in trouble, spending some time making an informed choice at election time, or even as far as backing up the candidate of your choice with support.

Quite obviously your legacy will be a record of weak voting and action in the upper house, like your federal conterparts.Mark Aldridge wrote: Those that went before us gave everything to tame this great land, so you are simply a disgrace to their hard work if you continue to sit back and let their sacrifices slip away in vain, we are all immortal as we are remembered by what we leave behind for future generations, so what will be your legacy?

I see he's following in the footsteps of Kevin Foley, with all those beautiful women at his side, or at least on his Myspace 'Top Friends' list.
