State Election 2010
Re: State Election 2010
Anyone remember the Clinton and Lewinsky Scandal? Is it just me or do I see plenty of parallels here?
Re: State Election 2010
I pretty much just laughed all through tonights Sunday Night episode,
The music paired with dodgy "hidden camera" style shots of him *gasp* In an elevator.
The "I think that shes a fantastic mother" THEY HAD SEX ON HIS DESK "A close friend" THEY DID IT IN THE PARK LANDS
was a bit ridiculous. Some of those questions were also very, "Lets get the most out of this $200 00 . 00 " as well

When they're paying that much for an interview, they may as well milk the most out of it to get as many viewers as possible... sounds like the media doing what they do best.Hoops wrote:I pretty much just laughed all through tonights Sunday Night episode,

I don't see many. This is an entirely media-driven scandal, whereas the Lewinsky incident was an altogether broader political conspiracy. I don't expect the Liberals to run very far with it if indeed they chose to do so. The fact is, Australian politics has not traditionally indulged in this type of thing, most likely because to do so is to open up secrets on both sides of the divide. Moreover, there just isn't very much to say about this in relation to his abilities as Premier.AG wrote:Anyone remember the Clinton and Lewinsky Scandal? There's truth in that. I wonder how much this story will get pushed, or whether it'll just be forgotten almost as quickly as the Foley Depression story.SRW wrote:I don't see many. This is an entirely media-driven scandal, whereas the Lewinsky incident was an altogether broader political conspiracy.
I don't think many doubt his abilities as a premier, but more so his character. Whether the allegations are true or if this is just a media beat up remains to be seen. Considering how good Mike Rann is at dealing with the media, I'd be surprised if this pushes him out of politics completely.SRW wrote:I don't expect the Liberals to run very far with it if indeed they chose to do so. This is probably the reason the story has been pushed so far. I imagine there are a few bitter 'journos', disgruntled at being stage managed, grinning with schadenfreude right now.AG wrote:Considering how good Mike Rann is at dealing with the media, I'd be surprised...

Attention directed to the Liberals for a moment; just to make a note of, Liberals have been silent throughout this whole thing. No statements, nothing.
On either regard, I'd like to think that they are acting in moral defense to let it fall out on its own terms and simply to distance themselves from an issue which doesn't concern them.
My suspicions are arising if they're in on this - They did say themselves that they would launch a dirty campaign upcoming to the Election.
Note aside, what is the trace of the "undisclosed sum" to which Ms. Chandelier was paid for? Were any "donations" lodged to either New Idea and/or Channel 7 in the last few weeks?

You're being sarcastic right Shuz?Shuz wrote:My suspicions are arising if they're in on this - They did say themselves that they would launch a dirty campaign upcoming to the Election.

After listening to Mike Rann's media conference and watching the dribble that was the interview last night, I don't think the possible sex between the two is the problem, but more so the possibility that Mike has lied to the public. I like Mike, he's fought well for this state, but if it's proven that he has indeed lied, then a lot of people will most probably jump ship.
I hope Redmond and co. don't give much attention to this affair, it's not worth their time. Keep pressing the RAH rebuild and water conservation policies.

lol, Rann screws some lady of easy virtue and Shuz thinks the liberals are behind it.

There is a reason why the premier is called 'media Mike'. His stage handling of the media is impeccable. As such I strongly doubt he would let his guard down to such a degree and participate in such a relationship, let alone have sex in such visible and public places as Parliament House and a golf course. Furthermore as I was watching Sunday Night my gut feeling was that Mrs. Chantelois was lying. The moment when she 'broke down' when discussing the moment when her youngest son found out about the alleged affair seemed fake and as if she was trying to cry. Furthermore a person who is feeling ashamed as Mrs. Chantelois claims to be feeling, subconsciously looks a lot at the floor. If you look at the interview, Mrs Chantelois is pretty much always looking at the journalist. It is known that when people tell a lie, they often look at the eyes of the person they are telling the lie to, so as to gauge whether the person is believing the lie. Not to mention the fact that Mrs Chantelois is a low-income earner, and as such for such a person in her position, the prospect of a 6-figure payment is irresistible. Put yourself in her position. If I was her, if someone was paying me $200 000, I would admit to having sex with Mike Rann.

Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

He was single, she was married. Then she waits five years until just before an election to reveal all for an undisclosed amount on national TV. Looks like a duck, quacks like a duck.

I'd be surprised if the government hadn't quietly approached Ms 'Chandelier' and her husband immediately aster the rolled up magazine incident to pay them off. Perhaps they still have time.
The problem is not the adultery, it's the morality. Morals may not count for much any more, but the appearance at least of moral behaviour must mean something in the case of our leading citizen.
Try teaching your kids to behave without risking unnecessary hurt to people if they can point to the Premier and say well, he's doing it.
And what about poor old Monsignor David Cappo, who sits on Rann's cabinet? Where does the Roman Catholic church stand on adultery? The phrase 'thou shalt not commit' comes to mind...
