Thanks for the photos AG. That is definately one impressive building. Well done to the university. I love how they have integrated the old with the new.

Just noticed tonight as I drove past this building has some awesome night-time lighting effects going on, including what I presume are neons (purple) running up the length of the building. Very nice!

It isn't just purple. It changes colour every minute or so (I've seen it in red, blue and green also so far).

Fight may be over for Union Hall
Union Hall at Adelaide University is a step closer to being demolished.
The 1950s theatre has been removed from the State's heritage register.
The University wants to knock it down to develop a multi-million-dollar science precinct.
After protests from supporters, it was provisionally listed on the heritage register in February.
Conservation Minister Paul Caica says Union Hall has some significance but the case for redevelopment is very strong.
"It was a difficult decision ... but ultimately it had to be made in what I believe was in the best interest, the best public interest," he said.
"The University and the plans it has for that site with respect to the construction of a new institute of photonics and advanced sensing ... will improve teaching," he said.
"It will improve research facilities and will make a significant contribution to public tertiary education in this state."
Union Hall supporter, Bob Lott, says its heritage value has been ignored.
"Well clearly the minister has not and his Premier is not doing what they said they would do at election time and that is listen to the people," he said.
The University says Union Hall could be bulldozed by the end of the year.

finally some good news on Union Hall!
as a student i fully support the demolition the hall (srsly, it's a piece of crap), i just hope the feds funding is still avalible, otherwise we could be waiting a few years and for a project that was supposed to have got started at the beginning of semester 1 this year, but all the conservative dks had to have a whinge
save union hall, save the RAH...i'm surprised there wasnt a 'save the hughes plaza' group too

From what I saw on the news the protest consisted of about four poor souls with placards.......
....oh yeah.........and these guys....
I'd happily drive the first bulldozer through the front doors of Union Hall myself if I could.

I may get some trash and old stale food thrown at me here but I am actually a fan of Union Hall and have been interested in this building for some time. I actually managed to get some fairly average photos of it a few months back and haven't had the time to go back since to get more but it sounds like I am too late. It will be a sad sight to see this building get demolished like so many other of Adelaide's fine buildings. Soon all we will have is boring glass towers that have no historical value... take a drive to Bendigo one day and take a look at how old and new should be mixed together... (eg. the Bendigo Bank building standing proudly next to the Family Hotel).
Anyone know when the Hall will start to be demolished?
