It's probably too late to ask this, but is there a business case to support the gift of half a billion of public funds for this project when the state has many more pressing demands for funding than AO?

Now I know you're more intelligent than the "put the money into hospitals, nurses, schools, roads, police, why give the money to sport?" brigade.

You don't think there'll be broader economic flow-on benefits from putting money into this thing?

i'd like to hear your cost benefit analysis as to how this will put more money into the pockets of the average South Australian taxpayer

The sad reality is that an overwhelming amount of people are completely oblivious to the fact that John Bannon and John Olsen are involved in this project somehow.

A former Labor Premier who brought that state to the brink of collapse after the State Bank fiasco and a former Liberal Premier who engaged in dodgy deals with Motorola and resigned, consequently. The stench of financial incompetance and mismanagement is rife, and has been from day one.

King, were you an adult when the State Bank collapsed? The reason I'm asking is that I was, and most of the people I know did not actually blame JB for the collapse, but rather blamed Tim Marcus Clarke. John Bannon shouldered the blame as he was Premier and Treasuer, and his political career was ruined over it, Tim Marcus Clarke left the state in a hurry and got a high-paying job interstate. Despite the collapse of the State Bank, JB was and still is one of the most popular premiers SA has had, holding his position even longer than Don Dunstan did. Mike Rann has passed that now, but he's certainly not as popular as John Bannon was.

John has been a SACA Board member since 2000 and was elected to the Cricket Australia Board in 2008. He is a Director of the Centre for Community Services and Research and former Director of the ABC. John was a member of state parliament (1977-1993), was the Leader of the Opposition (1979-82) and Premier of South Australia (1982-1992). He is a member of the Lord’s Taverners and a Life Member of the Adelaide Turf Cricket Association.

Haven't done the maths, I have a life to lead, but I'd expect that bringing people into the city and having them spend money would benefit the receivers of that money, who would on-spend at least a portion of it and on it goes - with the Government taking its cut all the way through and re-investing at least a portion of it into things that benefit the average South Australian taxpayer.

I'm sure you know that dollars spent on sport, entertainment and tourism don't just benefit the initial users/receivers.

But the AO design appears to have very high roofs that I imagine trap no heat and block very little rain as it drifts or pelts in on angles. So from that point of view I think this stadium could be far inferior to Footy Park.

I wish. I had this concern when I saw the designs last year. I noted that during the cricket Tony Greig said that the new western stand was nice and open and breezy. Yeah great... in summer.

Other than this I'm mostly in favour of the upgrade, although like most people I'm concerned about access. E.g. during modest events at AO it becomes impossible to get a carpark if you're going to the Women's and Children's Hospital. I suppose that will be part of the argument to move it to the new RAH in years to come.

I didn't even see what it is you wrote, but for a moderator to remove it well, based on some of the other fact-free posts you make, I can just imagine what your post contained.

Anyway, I can't wait for the AFL to reveal what their financial contribution is going to be. Hopefully their contribution(is SACA/SANFL contributing?) will offset the tax payer funded members grand stand.

I agree, rev. Considering the advantage footy will gain from the 'guaranteed $8 million per year' payment, from the probable deal SANFL/AFL has done regarding rezoning West Lakes, and from the likely AFL ticket prices at AO, it would be good to see footy stoop to putting in a cent or two.

And once again, it would be good to see a bit of transparency from Demetriou and his mates about funding, The car and mouse games played almost out if habit by football administrators are childish and unnecessary.

Some exciting news, I just received a text message from a friend saying that a Serbia v Australia soccer match has been announced for Adelaide oval in June!

Can I suggest that even if you hate soccer with a passion buy a ticket and go to the match, we need to make sure this is a sell out in the hope that it convinces the FFA bring other matches to the ground!
