[COM] SkyCity Adelaide Casino Expansion | 55m | 12 Levels | Hotel

#1 Post by AtD » Wed Apr 05, 2006 7:04 pm

Found this:
http://www.railpage.com.au/f-t11314244.htm
The Adelaide City council has rejected Skycitys plan to put large external metal balconies on two levels of the Railway Station building. It very nearly got thru, the State Government has said it was ok, and it was only in the council that it was stopped and only by a slim number of votes. one that voted "yes" was the Lord Mayor
I am the bearer of Bad News, Sky city has been given permission to builds its WW2 fortification looking balconies for the smokers.
Anyone heard anything else about this?

I do remember reading this in the advertiser not long ago. The balcony is to be built on the side above the casino main entrance. Primary concerns were 'intoxicated' patrons on the balcony. There was a render in the paper and complaints were made about the balcony taking aware from the heritage listed building. Sorry can't help much more than that....

Skycity has started construction on these balconies now. Apparantly there is going to be 2 balconies on the Northern side and one on the southern side incorporated into the building. Have not seen any renders apart from the old ones in the Advertiser that were rejected.

Thought that these would start soon as the main reason for them is so smokers can use them once smoking is banned in all indoor venues from October this year.

What Part?

A lot of places are making renovations to have "smokers" outdoor areas for the change. they believe (even though the other states have proved this wrong) that with these new laws people will not go out as much. What a load of crap. i would go out more because you can actually breath in a pub/club/casino. Went to Hobart last week were they have had these laws for a while now and it was such a nice change walking into a pub with (near) fresh air.

regarding the skycity redevelopment... on bloomberg news
Sky City has halted plans to continue with its A$75 million property development in Adelaide as it awaits approval for car-park plans. It completed the A$21 million first stage of the plan, involving new cafes, restaurants, bars, private function rooms and gaming areas, in June 2005.

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid= ... =australia
so does that mean that provided they get carpark approval it's still going ahead? or is it being halted because of it's falling share price.

They're blaming fuel prices for a fall in profits? That reeks of bad management to me.

Not a good investment (SkyCity shares that is) at the moment. It has been a VERY quiet couple of months for the casino. Not going to get any better as well as March and April are historically slow months for casino operations. There has been no talk of the carpark being constructed for some while. I heard last year that they were going to start on this project in June/July this year. Can't see this happening.

Just curious, why is March and April slow? Any particular reason for this downturn?

There is a balcony already in place on the corner of railway tce and North Tce. It is placed within the columns and has glass balustrades so it is not very obtrusive at all. Hopefully this is what these are going to look like when they are finished.

[COM] Tram extension, RAH and Casino - ok, lowrise, but...

#14 Post by stumpjumper » Mon May 28, 2007 3:15 pm

When the tram extension was announced, more than a few people were concerned. Why do it, they rightly asked.

Now, we are told (1) that a replacement for the RAH may be built on the TransAdelaide site opposite UniSA West and (2) that the privately-owned casino is for sale and needs all the help it can get.

That's a different story. The tramline extension along North Tce starts to make a bit of sense, albeit privatising the benefits and socialising the costs as far as the casino is concerned.

Why couldn't we have been told? What's so commercial in conficdence about a new hospital and a casino going on the market?

Is the culture of secrecy within the Rann Govt now so ingrained that secrecy has become the default?

Ah...Are you joking? The tram extension was first proposed about 5 years ago. Do you really think back then the governement was thinking of re-building the hospital or do you think its more likely this idea was looked into over the last 12 - 18 months.

As for the Casino how would the government have known it would not meet the Casino profit targets all the way down the track and what benefit would the governemt get form helping the casino. The casino is not losing money it is just not perfomring to the tragets its board expected when they first bought the casino. It still remains one of the more profitable Skycity casino's in the region.

Some people really are into their conspiricy theories but this is just plane rubbish. I guess the government new that the nightclubs in the building on north terrace next to the uni were to fail too as in Traffic, Rapture ect. What a load of sh*t.
