Well done Sensational Adelaide - the poll here showed 75% of SACA members voting yes.

They should have no problem doing that. The government's plans are fully taxpayer funded and SkyCity intends to fund its expansion by negotiating with the government an extension of the limited holiday from turnover tax it arranged with the government when it took over the casino, so the casino's plans will be taxpayer funded too.

This is huge. Do people really understand what is going on in this state at the moment? There are that many projects occurring, we are finally transforming this city and bringing it into the 21st century.

Too right. Hope this helps:

Will, can't find your last post info, so I read back in the thread - speechless - the implications and flow ons are enormous.

Fantastic things happening over there ATM - and I'm NOT there to share in the euphoria!!! The river area stands to become an iconic showpiece. Adelaide will not be the same once these developments take place - activity levels and benefits boggle the mind.

Coupled with all the good news about the mining sector SA stands to advance VERY rapidly away from 'rust bucket' to a first rate ship-of-the-line.

ADELAIDE - TOWARDS A GREATER CITY SKYLINE

Really proud to be a member and part of this. Most of the elderly members over 70 wanted this because they wanted to be alive to c it happen, most of the younger members wanted this, it was just the vocal minority in the middle age bracket that were speaking out. I am so glad all the side issues of lack of frequent P/T (DTEI responsibility), A roof (football is an all weather game and cricket is a summer sport), and government funding priorities (if you dont like the way that government is allocating funding then vote against the government, not against redevelopment) didnt end up distracting what the members were there to do and that was to vote either for or against a redevelopment that is being offerd. My faith in SA is slowly beingh restored.

i'm 24 and speaking to many of my friends today, of the same age, we actually feel optimistic about things here. not to say life is going to be 'beer and skittles' in adsy due to this progressive step forward to modernize a key piece of Adelaide's CBD, but it does allow for more self belief.. a target. looking forward to returning to adelaide after going OS for a couple years in july, and returning to see things picking up here. its such a great city with so much potential.

cheers to all the saca members for looking forward, rather than treading water. :applause:

So good to read your comments and the optimism expressed, not only by yourself but also your group of friends.

This redevelopment decision was so important to boost the morale, state pride and general psyche for South Australians, especially amongst our younger folk. A 'No' vote would have sent a strong anti-progress message and a loss of faith by our younger generation (and others).

I completely agree. A no vote would not have meant that SA is backwards or Adelaide a big country town, however it would have created such an impression. That is why a yes vote was so important. The boost to the psyche of this state created by this decision is priceless.

It's great to not only hear the enthusiasm from us development fiends, but from everyday people I speak too who are genuinely excited about the future of Adelaide being an optimistic one.

I'm also proud of my fellow SACA members who could look past the spin and see the massive benefits in what this redevelopment has not only for Footy and Cricket in Adelaide, but the wider CBD itself.

Very happy when I got the SMS from both the SACA and the PAFC last night!!
Walking on over....

From the ACC website:
Lord Mayor Welcomes Oval Vote

Released: 03 May 2011 [12.00am]

Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood today reinforced Council’s support for the redevelopment of Adelaide Oval following the positive outcome of the SACA vote yesterday.

“This is a great result that will take Adelaide to a new level with a world-class stadium that will bring real benefits to the city,” Stephen said.

Council voted unanimously in March to support the redevelopment. It has also set up an intergovernmental relations group to negotiate governance and operational arrangements for the Oval precinct.

“Council will continue to work with the State Government and all those involved to ensure that the Oval is everything we all want it to be,” Stephen said.

“Council is aware that car parking and control of the precinct will be two of the key issues to resolve. Our aim is to reinvest all revenue into city services, including public transport options and provide good maintenance of the area,” he said.

“It’s exciting times as Adelaide Oval becomes the home of AFL and international and top level cricket.”

Amid the general celebrations: from Shop Distributive and Allied Employees Association headquarters, Kent Town today...

'The oval redevelopment will make no difference to trading hours in the CBD. The CBD is not a tourism precinct and extended hours are inappropriate. SDA policy (ie government policy) will not change.' My bracketed words.

I did too, I had a couple of very elderly clients at work today who said they were in favour of the development, i was very suprised, but i guess we shouldn't generalise. I still have to pinch myself to believe this is actually going to happen. Can't wait to watch construction when it begins, but looks like we have a 12 month wait before that. I wonder if they will release some updated renders, or are the plans for the structures themselves final?

bring it on!
