I'm hoping the rest of it will become visible as the facade comes down.baytram366 wrote:Love the historical logo - great spotting

I can see plain text saying "Harris, Scarfe & Co" but it doesn't look like a logo to me. Was that ever actually a logo?

I wonder what is going to happen to all of this? Especially the "safe that isn't going anywhere"... very interesting video

Fascinating video. Yes I wonder if Harris Scarfe have made the effort to preserve those historic artifacts and move them somewhere where they can be kept safe for the future? The SA museum perhaps, if they have room?

ALL Rundle Mall side windows have now been removed. Scaffolding would appear to be about to be set up on top of the heavy duty gantry in the laneway to Da Costa arcade.

For Baytram 366 - the old signage is visible from Coro Place...

[COM] Re: SWP Rundle Pl:Bendigo-Adel Bank, Harris Scarfe, Coles 72
The masonry shaft just to the right of the old signwriting is certainly an interesting piece of structure!

[COM] Re: SWP Rundle Pl:Bendigo-Adel Bank, Harris Scarfe, Coles 72
I wish I didn't see the photo of the old "logo", it makes me step back into my old conservative "preservation" boots.. but I know in the end that the new building is much more useful. The development did have the potential to be more interesting.. oh well onward and upward
[COM] Re: SWP Rundle Pl:Bendigo-Adel Bank, Harris Scarfe, Coles 72
Looking at it now, I actually think this was not the ugliest building in Adelaide. I much rather see the red brick monstrosity next door to HS demolished!
My work is never finished.

Thanks Xaragmata for posting those fantastic photos. I've been meaning to get into the city myself this week but have been a little ill. Hopefully not too much will be demolished before I can take a closer.

It looks like they're still focussing on internal demolition / asbestos removal and setting up of hoardings, gantries, scaffolding and site offices at the moment but I would expect the major external demolition will probably start soonish.

A large mobile crane has been positioned in the area adjacent Rundle Mall where a single storey part of the store was demolished (tableware department) and another on Grenfell street.
McMahon Services workers were today inside the Events store which closed last week.
A large section of the metal cladding on the back wall of the carpark (behind the demolished tableware department) has been removed. Very similar cladding has been installed along part of the covered walkway / gantry in Franic St and also on top of it (presumably to guard against rubble falling onto the adjacent buildings on the other side of the street). I think it's very possible the metal cladding is actually the same cladding that was removed from the wall of the carpark and has just been reused rather than buying new material for that purpose.
Wooden boards are being installed in the covered walkway in Lindes lane (or whatever the laneway on the other side from Francis street is called) along with lighting.
Some of the boards covering windows on Grenfell street) ground level) have been removed, possibly just temporarily to allow easier access with heavy machinery.
Talking of heavy machinery, a concrete hammer on the end of a mini-excavator (not sure what they're really called) was inside the store removing the stairs leading from Rundle Mall down to EzyDVD (I'd say the stairs will be completely gone by now).
Roger David is STILL trading!

[COM] Re: SWP Rundle Pl:Bendigo-Adel Bank, Harris Scarfe, Coles 72
Not much visible change today except more of the cladding has been removed from the back wall of the carpark (actually I don't think it is the carpark as it looks more like a fairly narrow passageway so maybe it's just a series of corridors from the store into the carpark???
Also metal cladding (not the same type as removed from the aforementioned wall this time but another more colourbond style cladding) has been installed along one side of the covered walkway along Lindes lane (if that's what the laneway is called that is nearest Regent arcade).
Looking through the Rundle Mall main entry doors I can see that the stairs down to EzyDVD have indeed been completely removed.
Sorry I can't always post photos (don't take my camera around with my most of the time) but I hope the updates are of interest anyway.

More photos at the above flickr link. Not much looks to have happened to the site since pushbuttons last update but it looks like it won't be long until they start on the main tower section. I hope to go back within the next week and take some more shots and see if there is any more progress.
