As an ex-photojournalist and commercial photographer I know what perspective is. The rendering is the equivalent of an image taken with a perspective control (tilt/shift) lens used in architectural photography. The reason why I said it is an optical illusion is because monotonehell said the lines converged at a point below the building. They don't of course but it looks that way because of the pods that stick out in the top part of the building. All architectural renderings should be like this. Nothing wrong if you prefer the opposite.

Wow! You're right. I trained as an artist and usually don't 'see what isn't there'. But in this case I was well taken in.

there is actually a bldg in London that does have vertical lines diverging with height - and with twist as well. (Close to the 'gherkin'). Looks odd - like it'll collapse. not far from the Shard either. (where vertical lines converge to a point at the top).

Ha... bizarre seeing the Walkie Talkie on here. (I'm staring at it out my office window).

Ha!... mercifully not - it's been 'fixed' since then. They've installed blind things on all the windows to avoid a repeat incident (managing to make the ugly even uglier).

I can remember wandering past prior to this and when the sun was out (rare phenomenon, admittedly) you could certainly feel the heat being fired down from the arch at the top.
Looks better inside than it does out. The SkyGarden up the top is fabulous - a bar with balcony/viewing deck, live music, a couple of restaurants, and a giant atrium full of plants. Really unusual spot.

That's it! the 'gherkin' is in the background - a conical top and round bldg.

Lots of action on site today (4/2/2016) associated with piling and loading up spoil. The sales office is well gone.

As at Monday 15 Feb they are ready to cap the piles along the northern boundary. Picture shows northern boundary looking east.

Some lunch time shots from today 25 Feb 2016. What looks like the lift core is being dug out in the centre of the site. Pile caps are being formed up on the eastern and northern boundaries.

More reinforcing work towards the northern end, the main service core is to the right past the heap of dirt. Picture 10 Mar 2016.

The central service core is still being dug out. Footings are being dug out and concreted in different areas all over the site one at a time.

The ground floor slab was being poured at the northern end (next to the building with the mural). But footings are still being excavated at the southern end (Wright St end).
There is still no indication of where the crane might be located. Picture lunch time 3 may 16.
