This photo was taken about a week ago. The core is topped out now.

Interesting that they were allowed to have south facing balconies like that. Bad luck if the neighbour decides to put their own tower up – unless the interior is heritage listed?

and next, they're going to paint it brown. or if paint is too expensive they could just leave it bare.
i hope in the future something nice will cover this building up from the north and south

Cover it up? I'm actually finding it quite nice (the pattern through the pre-cast looks good, although it's hard to see in photos, much better in person. Xaragmata's photo from Synagogue Pl gives a good sense though).metro wrote:and next, they're going to paint it brown. or if paint is too expensive they could just leave it bare.

I hope they do leave it bare, and not paint it. The texture of raw concrete is far more interesting and appealing than a cheap coat of paint. Given that some of the concrete is pre-coloured black (in between the windows), I'm optimistic.

Those buildings and car lot on the corner of Frome and North Terrace are such a waste of space. Can't wait for someone to plonk apartments or something there...
But as for the Globe building, I agree the geometric pattern in the precast is somewhat interesting. The building is turning out well.

Finally, a render of what the building will actually look like:
Although to be honest, I kind of regret finding it. It looks cheap and nasty.

The coloured balconies seriously detract from the building.
The radiating sun pattern at the entrance also doesn't fit. Looks like it belongs on a completely different building.

On a plus it could look quite good at night if it's lit up with that. Especially with the Rundle Lantern it will add a bit of night time vibrancy as long as it's maintained... i could see it looking horrendous in a year or so when the lights etc neeed replacing and they aren't.

Exactly my thoughts. If lit up and maintained will look good at night though.Thanial wrote:looks pretty good, but i've got the strangest idea that it won't age well
