However, apart from the first one the architecture is so piss poor it looks like 1980's Queensland unfortunately.

Yes, very much Gold Coast. May have something to do with the hot humid climate.

Quite extraordinary for a town of its size (pop <150,000).

Sadly never been to Darwin, but the development occurring there is impressive. I have to ask though; is it a very pleasant place at street level for pedestrians? Some of the photos seem to indicate not. I just hope that the city is growing with a sound urban vision of itself, and not haphazardly at the want of developers.
