The Earl of Leicester for me love the place, I'm a massive fan of the front bar (working my way through the beer legends club), the restaurant does a mean meal as well and is as upmarket as some so called restaurants in the CBD and has a handy wine collection.

The Bistro and Pokie are just that and seem to always be full (however a bit dated).

Other than that I enjoy going to the Duke of York or Coopers Ale House.

If you're ever in the Coopers Alehouse, try the Sparkling ale on the hand pump... the way it's supposed to be served *drools*

Have you caught the tram to the Governer Hindmarsh hotel? It's just a half-minute walk from the AEC stop!

Yep, a difficult question. You can have a bad time in a good pub and a good time in a bad pub. There a pubs for getting pissed in and pubs for wooing in.

I like the Scenic at Norton Summit for the view, and the Jolly Miller at Hindmarsh for getting lagered in. The Daniel O'Connell in Tynte St North Adelaide has good facilities and the Ed has a nice lawn. The Brit is pleasantly worn, and the Goodwood Park is slick, the Historian's full of drunks, and on it goes.

I'd say the short answer is that the best pub in town is the nearest one that's open.

Tough one

I would say the Exeter and Brompton would have to be two of my favourites.

Stirling Hotel is pretty nice aswell.

Adelaide is the city with the most pubs per capita of any capital city in Australia. In fact instead of the dated moniker 'city of churches', we should instead be called 'the city of pubs'.

As for a favourite one, I can't say. It is like asking a parent to chose which child he loves most. 8)
It would be nice if Tourism SA would promote Adelaide's pub scene, something that would appeal to the younger generation interstate and overseas.

Adelaide pretty much leaves all the other cities for dead when it comes to hotels.

Amen to that. I like all of the previously mentioned pubs.

I don't drink in city pubs much anymore, but when I did I was always rather partial to the Brecknock. They used to have some lovely Irish beers on tap, as well as guinness of course, and they did fantastic steaks. And they gave us a free room upstairs to have our meetings in (Climbing Club of SA). These days I like the balcony at the Griffin after work on a friday evening occasionally, or the Winston if I want to have a quiet beer and a chat. For atmosphere and top food I love the Bombay Bicycle Club at Ovingham.

Maid and Magpie may do the best pub food in Adelaide.

It seems to me that TourismSA is fixated on food, wine and festivals. It could easily widen its outlook a bit.

SA Brewing used to have an informal but important annual award for the best beer in a Brewing Company pub. The Excelsior at Brompton used to win it regularly. Short lines, it was said.
