The total length down Bank St (1/2 block) reminds me of 400 KWS (90m or 2/3rds of the block)- must be close. Getting excited about this one.

BTW - I thought the proposal seen in the last render on this thread was altered somewhat in response to objections about the external design.I seem to recall a later design - appearing much more conservative - was the one in vogue. i prefer the render given above. Could someone please enlighten me about this.

Which makes the estimate sizes I made pretty accurate. Impressed with the potential high visibility of the finished product as well.

Very interested in this project too as it wil change the city skyline from this angle which is always photographed. How old was the building that used to stand on this site?

hmmm good question, without checking, Im guessing that former hotel building was about a 1920's or 30's circa, judging by the outside. I never set foot inside it though

Foundation stone was laid in May 1904...

And it wasn't heritage listed or anything?
I guess that doesn't stop it from getting bulldozed though - many buildings on the heritage register are missing today

The building on site was not of heritage value. Being slightly old is not an automatic qualifier.

Just to confirm... the ground floor is still supposed to have some street interaction/ shops?
and the first/second floor will feature a public cafe/restaurant with alfresco balcony seating?

Would be great HSA!! The photo shows promising action. Will be following the progess of this bldg closely.

BTW what is the use of that bldg at the far end of Bank St on south side of Hindley st. I think it was a furniture place once.

According to those plans:
There will be six retail tenancies at street level, three on the first floor, three on a mezzanine floor (due to the slope of the site)
First floor & balcony is a commons area, garden in the north tower and apartments in the south tower

Be interesting to see how the above ground level retail tenancies go. Apparently Adelaide shoppers can't think in the third dimension or can't use stairs or something. Look at Adelaide Arcade, the upper levels of Myer Centre and so on.
