It's temporary hoarding. The yellow stairs behind will be visible once complete.

The climbing scaffolding is being removed from the top 4 floors on the south side starting from the western end.

This one is fast becoming a favourite. Up until today I haven't really looked too closely at it in real life, but I think it's a really cool building to look at. It's quite difficult to photograph due to its size.

And a bonus shot from Light Square, where it's now gaining prominence:

Definitely one of Adelaide's more impressive new buildings and appropriate it's next to SAHMRI in an architectural sense too.

This one must be similar in length to 400WS but a solid ~50% taller...

Yes, definitely an impressive one. I walked past it at lunchtime today and the only thing I'm not sure about is that angled white cylindrical column at the eastern end of the North Terrace façade. Just one at an angle looks out of place.

Yes it is hard to fit the whole building into 1 picture. Here is a view of the railway (northern) side also from today (3 June 16). The roof top level floor appears to have a sloping roof which is higher at the ends and 'sags' in the middle as seen by the bare steel columns at top. Note also there is a sloping white column at the lower level (floors1-4).

Would appear we have our answer to where the extra floor at the top comes in - looks like steel columns with bolts anchored (or drilled) back in to the concrete below.

How is it that there can be such a collection of interesting design in this group of buildings and such bland boxes everywhere else in the CBD? ...now, if they could only demolish the very ugly 80's UNI SA buildings opposite on North terrace, or at least upgrade the façade to get rid of those awful shade grilles.- Yellow paint, terracotta tiles and blue metal grilles as a cbd façade on North terrace?? Obviously built to a price. Yuk!

80's? You're only off by a couple of decades.

I understand though that it's standard fare to equate anything ugly to the 80's. I understand. I was born in them.

As regards the ugly Uni SA 80's buildings, the story at the time was that an architect designed the First building (the one nearest Morphett St) and then got the sack and the Uni just repeated his design another 3 times. The worst part is they used the same baby poo yellow inside as well. Also there is only one direct entrance onto North Tce under the Big U.

80s? The City West campus opened in 1997.

Some concepts from the UniSA 2020 Master Plan for upgrading these facades. As I understand it - this body of work is a lower priority than some of the other infrastructure happening around the Uni.

If I am not mistaken, the proposal in your post was later dumbed-down to this:

By the time they begin work, though, I am sure it will have changed again. I only hope it is something more substantial.

You're right, actually. I was aware of the two concepts but naturally assumed the worst one was older. Mine are dated 2011 so are long off the drawing board.

At a compromise, a simple lick of paint to a less garish colour would be better than nothing.
