I doubt the block would cost $30m. Probably less than $10m, it would add $5m+ to the price of the apartments at Adelaidean, which seem to start at level 11. You can then build a 10 story building next to the hotel bit of Adelaidean. Plus they apparently offered to buy the site at 269.

Yeah, when the Adelaidean was in early planning there were reports they tried to buy the church but it wasn't for sale at the time. By the time that site went up for sale the building was already underway.

There was more to it than that, IIRC. Bad blood.

Whilst I'm not sure of the quality of the interior based off that first image looks a bit cheap... I can say that seeing this building grow next to Adeladean just goes to show that despite it being only a 'cheap' student accommodation building the quality of finishes and attention to detail is of a far superior quality to that of Adelaidean which is meant to be a premiere hotel and apartment building. The irony considering Samaras didn't want this to go up because it wasn't in keeping with the North Terrace scape.

Yeah, it really shows off the cheapness of the Adelaidean leaving so much bare concrete exposed.

No no, the concrete is painted, high quality paint.
Oh well I suppose whoever gets the re-painting contract for that exposed concrete all around this pile of shit will be able to probably just do that one job for the year and live comfortably.
As if high rises are being painted in stead of cladding being used.
I don't see much difference besides in the reflectivity of windows. Which mind you are probably made in the same cheap ass slave labour factory in China anyway.

Went for a walk past a couple of days ago, I think this building will look fine on the skyline, but you can definitely see the cheapness of the materials more up close.

'Cheap' seems to be the most commonly used word on this forum.
Most of which by people who have no direct involvement or vested interest in such projects. Probably never even set foot on a commercial construction site for that matter.

I suppose, maybe painting the concrete is more expensive than the original glass covering they proposed, I'll defer to your knowledge.

I remember this being discussed when the changes were made. Where on the building is this going to happen?

That last pic gives me goosebumps. It used to be some sleepy corner you thought nothing of when leaving uni. Now it's god that big city feel with huge buildings and mass transit rattling by.
