The ACC pyramid skyline policy was truly one of the more bizarre planning policies of any city worldwide. It seriously stunted development and growth for years. State Bank collapse was bad enough to deter investors and developers but the ridiculously cumbersome and archaic regulations up until 2006(?) did not help either. Thank God that's in the past.

Shuz, that's a massive exaggeration. The Pyramid policy wasn't a major factor in stunting development and growth in Adelaide. If Developers can work around the strict planning policies in Europe, then they were definitely able to deal with Adelaide's pyramid scheme.
90% of the reason for Adelaide's stunted development can be attributed to the state bank collapse and general political apathy. The Pyramid policy would barely hit a percentile.

Damn, was really hoping they would request the facade be maintained.

Why only a partial demolition?

Probably a reference to the front facade being kept as part of the new building.

So there is starting to be some movement on this property.

I live next door in the Oaks Horizon and folks from Hindmarsh came and took a couple of pictures from my balcony which is adjacent to this property.

I'm departing OS shortly and I doubt I will return to my abode since the noise, debris and filth will over inundate this area.

Our of curiosity, whats it like living there, from my understanding part of it is still a hotel? Do you get much noise or issues with those short stay visitors particularly on weekends?

Oaks Horizons is a dual mode occupancy. When it opened in 2004 (I think) the units were all owner owned. But sometime in the 2010s Oaks took over the management of the property they also bought some of the units and now there is a mix blend. I was no around at the time because the property was owned by my sister and it was primarily as a place of registry so her children could attend Adelaide HS. I took it over later with a plan to have a place to live in my birthplace.

Depending where you are in the building there is different issues which do crop up. The lower the floors the more noise there is, especially on long weekends and holidays. Some of the Hindley St. riff-raff make a nuisance of themselves in the area. It will be interesting how the new property handles the area of Bennett Lane and the back lane which is adjacent to the Car Park. Also the gym and swimming pool area attracts individuals who think they have the right act like lunatics at times - this is on the 3rd floor.

However, since 2016 I have more proactive in using the apartment and there are many pluses of living in this area and even though this new building will test my patience and probably my schedule as to when I reside at the Oaks, I will defer to a later reckoning before I have to move.
