Actually it will bring it into the second half of the 20th century.Ursus Maritimus wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2024 9:27 pmThe traffic on South Road is atrocious and this will bring it into the twenty-first century. While I'm all for public transport, realistically this sort of urban motorway needs to be done given how car-dependent Australia is.
The railway wasn’t for commuter rail, it was to replace the ARTC through Salisbury and would join the Globlink Hills bypass.rev wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2024 10:22 amActually it will bring it into the second half of the 20th century.Ursus Maritimus wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2024 9:27 pmThe traffic on South Road is atrocious and this will bring it into the twenty-first century. We're playing catch up as usual. And in the case of the not too long ago completed northern connector, failed miserably when the rail component was not included in the final build considering how much housing is going to built in the region that motorway runs through. 20-30,000 people in Riverlea in the coming decade. Imagine Gawler without a train line. That motorway is going to see some significant congestion at peak hours, and further down the line the NS Motorway will be a nightmare.
Adding onto that, if the Northern Connector rail component was ever built, the current corridor via Salisbury could be a good route to run a Riverlea/Two Wells service.SBD wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2024 11:03 amThe railway wasn’t for commuter rail, it was to replace the ARTC through Salisbury and would join the Globlink Hills bypass.rev wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2024 10:22 amActually it will bring it into the second half of the 20th century.Ursus Maritimus wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2024 9:27 pmThe traffic on South Road is atrocious and this will bring it into the twenty-first century. I know it the initial vision or proposal was for freight, but without rail being taken into account when building it, it will now cost more if/when they ever do it.SBD wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2024 11:03 amThe railway wasn’t for commuter rail, it was to replace the ARTC through Salisbury and would join the Globlink Hills bypass.rev wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2024 10:22 amActually it will bring it into the second half of the 20th century.Ursus Maritimus wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2024 9:27 pmThe traffic on South Road is atrocious and this will bring it into the twenty-first century. the sooner its completed the cheaper it will be with the current levels of inflation[Shuz] wrote: ↑Sun Sep 29, 2024 2:57 pmBasically the gist is they're looking to buy more TBMs to speed up the process.
I know they already have planned for 3.
TBMs don't come cheap. They're like a billion dollars each.
Won't be long before this one blows out to $20b. Money we literally don't have. Labor are spending money like drunken sailors on this project
Property acquisition for an open motorway the whole route rather than tunnels would surely have to be the cheaper option by a mile.
