Such a travesty that this is the quality of design that is replacing the Gerrard and Goodman building.

The larger of the two buildings is nice, but I couldn't agree more about the student accommodation. Looks cheap and nasty and does nothing to complement its surroundings. A real missed opportunity.

Definitely a missed opportunity, but at least its the best looking student accom. in Centurion's portfolio...

The buildings in their portfolio are really ugly.

You're ugly! ;)

While I'm not enthralled by the apparent sandstoneyness (?) of the finish, it will be somewhat lost back in behind there along with the other student accom. So out of sight... etc.

Work is progressing on the service core. There is No sign of a crane base yet. Picture 17/5/17.

Sorry to go a little off-topic, but I'm a bit confused with some of the thread titles. I notice that Kodo is now [U/C] because piling has started, yet this one is still [SWP] even though it is clearly more advanced. U2 also appears to be starting piling now but that one is [SWP] as well. So is piling the point where we consider site works finished and construction to have started?

Also, can I make a friendly suggestion that the title contain the status for each respective building in this development? So right now it would be "[APP & U/C] Frome Central | 36 & 21 Levels | 134m & 75m | Mixed Use".

The current title suggests that both buildings are undergoing site works, which I find a bit misleading and perhaps confusing for people who are passing by/don't come here frequently.

Maybe we should have separate threads for the two projects? I'm happy to start a new one for the student tower and keep this for the Adelaidean.

Yes I was going to suggest two threads. One for the elegant tower on Frome and one for the monstrosity on Synagogue. The carpark redevelopment in between would presumably be treated as part of the Frome tower thread.

Also, isn't the Frome tower 38 levels not 36 (counting ground and top plant floor as levels, but excluding basement)? Level 36 is the roof terrace, but there's another half-level above with plant. '37 rises in storey above ground' or '38 levels plus basement'?

As per the instructions at the top of every development forum:
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1881

Code: Select all

Abbreviations for Project Status
Note that these can be selected from the "Topic Prefix" menu when creating the thread.

VIS: VISion (not yet submitted to authority)
PRO: PROposed (submitted to authority, awaiting approval)
|
APP: APProved by authority
DEF: DEFerred by authority
REJ: REJected by authority
|
ONH: ON Hold
|
SWP: Site Works in Progress
- foundation work commenced; including the excavation of forms for foundations
- Note any site preparation, demolition of existing structures, clearing / leveling soil, ribbon cutting or sod turning ceremonies do not count as starting of site works in progress
|
U/R: Under Renovation
- where not a new build, old structure is undergoing external renovation
U/C: Under Construction
- actual building progress is being made
|
COM: COMpleted
- Tennant ready
Due to so many "ground breaking" ceremonies being little more than gold shovels tooling around in a pile of dirt; when they do the piling, stick in some rebar and pour the foundations we consider U/C.

Did someone jump the gun in the other thread?

In this one's case. In so many others the lots are still sitting with a little pile of dirt there for months.

Ben: I've started moving the relevant posts from the other thread to here. There's more to sift through and move yet. It's a finicky process, which can only be done a bit at a time.

Maybe we need a new status abbreviation for Golden Shovel Ceremony (GSC).
