[PRO] North Adelaide Golf Course Upgrade | ~$50m
Not really sure where to post, have put it under events but also complete redevelopment required.
Well in a massive announcement LIV Golf is going to be extended to 2031, North Adelaide course (public course) to be redesigned by Greg Norman. Apparently cost will be about $50M. You could imagine the competition from other states. Incredible outcome for economy and tourism $$ & eyes with shots of the city from all over the course.

I predict a State Government takeover of North Adelaide Golf Course from the ACC, much like the Aquatic Centre. It will become a much higher profile facility in public hands to rival Grange, Glenelg, Royal Adelaide, etc.

Replied to this in the other thread but I guess this one is more about the actual course redevelopment, how brilliant will it be to get a world class public course in the heart of Adelaide. Amazing for our exposure to the world.
[PRO] Re: LIV Golf
Hopefully this also leads to a boost in funding for other parts of the Parklands as well, the golf course being right at the heart of the city is a great lead in to highlighting a bunch of other great facilities surrounding the inner city.

well I'm not paying for it
didn't this government get elected on the promise of no vanity projects for sport?

I wouldn't be opposed to it becoming a state facility if it frees up council dollars for other areas of the parklands.ChillyPhilly wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2025 12:50 pmI predict a State Government takeover of North Adelaide Golf Course from the ACC, much like the Aquatic Centre. However, I wouldn't want it to be an exclusive facility like those private courses you mention. It cannot (should not) be fenced off.

I think some kind of permanent fencing could be okay if done correctly and kept open 99.99% of the time. Something akin to the fencing around the Botanic Gardens, that restricts access from every direction and directs people onto formed pathways, but with openings at regular intervals.
If the fencing were to just be regular cyclone type, then definitely no

They'll leave to be run by the ACC as is, or have it managed by the SMA or AVM.ChillyPhilly wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2025 12:50 pmI predict a State Government takeover of North Adelaide Golf Course from the ACC, much like the Aquatic Centre. I hate temporary cyclone fencing too but it's probably preferable for the few days a year it's required.SouthAussie94 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2025 7:11 amI think some kind of permanent fencing could be okay if done correctly and kept open 99.99% of the time. The golf course is about 25 per cent of the total parklands. I don't think its feasible or desirable to fence.

I'd prefer ACC in that case. The SMA shouldn't exist.rev wrote:They'll leave to be run by the ACC as is, or have it managed by the SMA or AVM.ChillyPhilly wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2025 12:50 pmI predict a State Government takeover of North Adelaide Golf Course from the ACC, much like the Aquatic Centre. not desirable in the least, but it doesn't stop them fencing off Victoria park when the car race is onSRW wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2025 8:26 amI hate temporary cyclone fencing too but it's probably preferable for the few days a year it's required.SouthAussie94 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2025 7:11 amI think some kind of permanent fencing could be okay if done correctly and kept open 99.99% of the time. Also could be a good opportunity for the government to setup a Parklands Authority and take away control/management of the parklands from the council.ChillyPhilly wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2025 8:44 amI'd prefer ACC in that case. This is a great outcome on the back of LIV, and this particular course is possibly the best located in Australia with regard to proximity to a CBD. Whilst Grange is a great course, the surrounds and arrival roads are hardly inspiring, and not worthy of such an international event. This will increase the events status, and provide a boost to CBD venues, in an otherwise quiet month for events.

Upgrade, sure, I'm all for it especially with both North and South courses allowing for a variety of fairways making up the 18 each year. Any attempt at a price hike on regular users or making it an exclusive access course or a handover of management to SMA or AVM and I'll be joining the chorus of people this. Public land, public accessibility. It might seem far fetched, but I can just picture SMA using non fairway pockets of this land for parking during test cricket or tennis OR AVM trying to host live music events on the land.
