The rest of your post is so ridiculous and self righteous it doesn't warrant reply, other than to say that friends and colleagues (who happen to be Muslim) would be (rightly) offended at being called extremists, when they are among the most gentle and peaceful people I know.

Call me a bleeding heart leftie all you like, but judging peoples' character purely on their religious beliefs isn't my thing.
Matt, I do not consider myself a right wing extremist, and I know a couple of muslim people quite well. The two women I know are well educated, working in mainstream jobs and for all appearances live an inclusive wetern lifestyle, I have met many of their friends.....however, any time I have asked questions regaurding various aspects of their religion out of genuine interest, they are happy to explain, up to the point where I happen to question the practicalities of their customs in the context of our society, and it gets quite...well uncomfortable. Muslims are required to defend Islam beyond anyhting else. Other cultures, other laws, friendships with people of other religions... they do not seem to be able to dis-entagle themselves from their religion even to avoid conflict in discussion. Religion comes before country, even friendships and family once those step outside Islamic guidelines. And as Rev referred to, I have also travelled to regions with a strong Islamic influence, and it would be not unfair to say, even when the Islamic population is in the monority, the other religions/cultures are genuinely scared of these people..such is their desire to dominate the host culture....and this is a worldwide phenomenon.

So in a nutshell I like Pyne but don't life Bernardi.

Both stick to what they believe in but Pyne can explain and debate his pov rationally. ...Bernardi well the less said the better.

Oh and everyone should start looking forward to Bob Days maiden speech. .......

I know quite a few real refugees who fled Yugoslavia during the wars there. Like 30+ people.
Not one of them arrived on a boat illegally to Australia.
They all arrived on passenger aircraft, legally. They all arrived with their documents proving their identities and where they are coming from in hand.
They were all settled in Australia within weeks of arriving. None of them spent years in detention centers.

Don't buy into all this bullshit about refugees being on those boats.
There may actually be some legitimate refugees on some of those boats. But most aren't.
They are trying to migrate for economic reasons in most cases. That doesn't give them a right to arrive here illegally.
Their fake claims to being refugees and asylum seekers is proven by the fact many of them BURN any documentation they have when our navy an airforce arrives. It's a fact ignored by the media who are playing the asylum seeker agenda.

Can yo understand that is my point, yes I haven't lived a reason to come to Australia
On a boat, but if I have the $$$thousands of dollars it takes
To pay a boat smuggler, why can't I just pay for a flight from Denpasar or wherever in to Australia ?

Because nobody is allowed on a plane unless they have a valid visa, otherwise the airline gets heavily fined.

Would they be able to get a visa as a tourist at an Australian embassy, consulate, high commission, etc., and then on arrival ask for refugee status? Is that possible?

Isn't it odd how Abbott wouldn't give Holden money, recently told SPC to cut workers wages and reduce working conditions, but he was more the happy to give Cadbury money.

How many of the ingredients in Cadbury products are local and how many are sources from developing countries like Brazil?

Compare that to how many parts for Holden's are produced here in Australia.

It gets even better. Apparently Cadbury wanted the money to upgrade machinery. That's what SPC wanted it for.

Even better...Abbott said SPC workers entitlements were too high...but the Productivity Commission has said wages and conditions were not contributing factors to SPCs financial position.

Abbott is right about one thing, SPC is owned by CCA who is doing very well, so they should and could help SPC. But he is hypocritical when he gives Cadbury money when they aren't financially struggling.

His next target is our wages. The award rates are going to get hammered. Fuel, utilities bills, they'll keep going up though. I wonder if Abbotts pay will also come down like most Australians? I wonder if he will cut his own life long pension entitlements, the office and 40 staff he will be entitled to one he leaves office....?
Will they also cut their chauffeured limos, private jets? Will they start writing their own speeches too?

They want to upgrade the VIP fleet of aircraft for the PM and other senior ministers. That will cost hundreds of millions per plane. See, what they have now isn't good enough, his highness Abbott needs the latest and greatest.

Do the new planes come with NBN high-speed quality internet?

To be fair, the Cadbury investment was mainly about re-starting the factory tours, which brought in a lot of tourism to struggling Tasmania.

Clearly as opposed to just keeping the factory internationally competitive, which would support the farmers but not bring any new industries to a struggling part of Victoria.

IMO rather than upgrading the existing cannery, they'd be better off building a new one at the planned new railfreight terminal. That could also have the advantage of making it easier for high speed rail to serve Shepparton, and increase the regeneration potential when it does. But the biggest obstacle is interest rates. If these were set at the correct level, the investment would be profitable without any government subsidies.

I'm dead serious, they want to buy new VIP aircraft for Abbott and senior ministers.

I wonder what our federal politicians will be driven around in after 2017 when Holden closes.

You can tell Abbott and Hockey have their priorities right. When they tell SPC to cut employee wages and conditions.
Well, according to them both, the Australian economy is up shit creek, so why aren't they taking a pay cut and cutting their perks back? Nup, instead they are looking at state of the art aircraft at a cost of hundreds of millions per aircraft.

Strange inconsistency in Tony Abbott's reason for supporting Cadbury ($16million). A needed re-structure/upgrade has morphed into tourism.

Before the election (Aug 2013)
http://www.news.com.au/national/tony-ab ... 6705546266

Now, post election, while refusing to provide support for SPC (and Holden)
(Feb 2014)
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-02-03/a ... ng/5236004

And Abbott's words in support of Ardmona SPC, while in Opposition - via Sharman Stone. That support has evaporated.
http://twitter.com/william7424/status/4 ... 33/photo/1

Ford just announced 300 more job losses in Victoria today and it looks increasingly like they may make an earlier exit. Does not bode well for Holden.

Still waiting to hear what support, if any, the Federal Government will provide to the workers at Holden and initiatives for re-training, employment. Elizabeth, like Shepparton, is an area of disadvantage. Closures of Holden and SPC will be devastating for their communities.

And, Rev "wondering what our politicians will be driven around in..." BMWs.
