completion will be late 2010 early 2011 supposedly
[U/C] Re: #approved: Tea Tree Plaza Shopping Centre Upgrade $190m
Hmm. This is interesting. I was told HS is moving to Bilo, Woolworths is moving to HS. Then the work will start linking between where Woolies was to TT+bm7500 wrote:I thought that construction might be imminent with HS moving from Tea Tree Plus to the Plaza, but it seems this is not the case. Apparently a Cheap as Chips store is opening up in the old HS store
Surely there is something lodged with the council on what the actual plan is and when the work is to start?
Somehow I get the feeling it won't start until next year. Its heading towards xmas, it would be too disruptive I think.

Does anyone have any renders or more specific idea of what actually is involved in the upgrade?
I am very keen to have more of an idea of what is going to go on here.

Thanks for that Duke. That makes sense and seems to clarify things a bit. I imagine then that perhaps work might start soon after xmas.duke wrote:Hmm. This is interesting. I'm posting here partly as a bump (as I want to know what's ahppening), but also because I found all that really funny and amusing. I have access to info from the Coles side of things as I work there.duke wrote:Hmm. This is interesting. I was told HS is moving to Bilo, Woolworths is moving to HS. Essentially, the BiLo remained a BiLo long after the conversions of BiLos because of a dispute with Westfield- the objection to converting the store was that since there was already a Coles in the centre (not far away, too), Westfield wouldn't allow it. From that point onwards there was a lot of negotiation. Westfield in all reality has little choice- almost all the major brands are already in the centre, and they won't give a plot like that to Foodland due to a dispute they had with Foodland a few years back (is there a Westfield chopping centre with a Foodland in it?). However the negotiation carried onward. I personally would have loved an Officeworks in the site, because I love Officeworks and such a move would destroy Big W's dominance of the stationery market at TTP. However I would imagine that since the negotiations were with Coles Food and Liquor, that would have been impossible since Officeworks is owned by a separate division of the company.
So what for Westfield to do? Well, they decided to move Harris Scarfe there. The store manager found out that was happening because a person showed up one day and started measuring up the store's dimensions. When asked what he was doing, he told the manager that the BiLo was being thrown out. That was the first time anyone in the company had heard of this. The current thought is that the corridor from TTP to TT+ will go through where Woolies currently is- destroying their perfect placement in TTP and stealing away heaps of their sales- rumours point to the current Harris Scarfe plot to become Woolies. Harris Scarfe has been screwed over because they will essentially be moved from a big plot to a small plot (they will lose the TT+ plot no matter what happens, the 'one version per centre' rule again). Things have become frosty between Westfield and Coles as a result of the bitch fight over the BiLo site.
Ahh... the actions of great men...

Well it was a bit rediculous for a while there. There was until quite recently 2 Bi-Los and a Coles, all within easy walking distance of each other!
Thankfully there's now just one Coles and that's it.
Somewhat off topic this, and no offence intended to the member who works for Coles, but when are Coles going to do something to create the impression they know what they're doing? As a customer I normally choose not to shop at Coles because it can't even make up it's mind what its logo or slogan is!
To some people that might not seem all that important, but it is all about the corporate identity and the image that is portrayed to customers, which is extremely important in determining what customers think of a business.
What I currently think of Coles is it's disorganised, tired, uninspired, boring, dull and confused about what it represents.
There's currently at least 3 different versions of the Coles logo in use, all of which look tired and dated and will soon look even more so once Woolworths new logo is fully rolled out, and Coles seems to be changing its slogan almost monthly too (and again none of them are exactly inspiring!)
Ok rant over, but come on Coles. Get your act together!

There is no laughing icon that can possibly represent how funny your complaints are when viewed from the inside. I don't consider your comments to be insulting, I work there to get through uni, I just have contact with permanents who know how screwed up the company is. Besides, even the permanents consider the company to be managed by idiots.
>As a customer I normally choose not to shop at Coles because it can't even make up it's mind what its logo or slogan is!
Currently it's "Australian since 1935" (or whatever the year is). this was in an attempt to pre-empt the imposition of WalMart, which is destroy Coles when it gets here. However, Coles really has several at once. I remember when BiLo narrowed all its slogens to one, then two weeks later released a new one (my store was originally a BiLo)... hilarious.
>but it is all about the corporate identity and the image that is portrayed to customers
The Wesfarmers guys, and some small amounts of props to them, are trying to work out the maze of garbage they have inherited. they have bought out a company that is bigger than the company that bought it out in the first place. Big thing to take on, especially for a company with no retail experience. Sadly they are coming up with the same 'solutions' that I saw about three years ago.
>There's currently at least 3 different versions of the Coles logo in use
Last I heard they were sticking by the 'drawn circle' idea that you see on 'You Love Coles' brand items. Though that was before Wesfarmers bought them out, so it could be different now.
>will soon look even more so once Woolworths new logo is fully rolled out
Is that the weird 'w that looks like an apple' logo? Woolies will drop that incredibly quick, I can just see it as being the next board's anachronism.
>Ok rant over, but come on Coles. Get your act together!
Quite frankly, there are so many screw ups in the company that I cannot cover tham all with the proper laughs they deserve. Like the store that was nearly completed, until they realised that trucks couldn't physically reverse up to the loading dock, so they had to rebuild part of the store. Or the new distribution centre that was too small before they finished moving all the stock into it, so they decided that instead of expanding it, they will move all the stock to Melbourne, and truck it to SA stores three times a week.

With the DC, the stock was low moving items such as health and beauty were moved to Vic.
EDIT: learned a new Coles slogan- "Coles - Mums like my mum likes Coles."
you can't make this stuff up.

I've worked for Myer and I could tell you lots about how disorganised it was (too much off-topic for this thread so send me a pm if you want to know).
You say the current Coles slogan is "Australian since xxxx", but in todays paper it was "Cutting the cost of your shopping" (suspiciously similar to an old Kmart slogan from not that long ago!!!), but then again they only recently introduced "something better every day"!
Is it like one slogan per week per store, or what?
I think that proves my point!
Morons!

lol, actually I think it's the something better line right now, I can't keep track of them. Maybe this would be better as a separate thread, "Supermarket Discussion"

Wesfarmers has plenty of retail experience, Bunnings for one. I think they will make an incredible go of this (coles).peas_and_corn wrote:The Wesfarmers guys, and some small amounts of props to them, are trying to work out the maze of garbage they have inherited. they have bought out a company that is bigger than the company that bought it out in the first place.
