Re: Railway Under the City (new plan)
When your centre left government has little to no interest in public transport investment I don’t see a world where something on this scale happens.

Cheering this falling over is bizarre. Yay we have a vacant butchered old building on absolute prime land for the foreseeable future.

Would love the know all the details here. At the end of the day it looks like we’ve paid money to not have something we need, being student accom in the Adelaide CBD. JLL just a month or so ago showing a shortage of 2000 beds.

Reading the premier’s announcement is telling, with it solely discussing the project’s benefits for motorists.

Would someone that understands the Panops constraining altitude explain it? Is this enforced by the Council, government or airport? I also thought it was far lower than circa 200m, has it changed, or just this number in the precise location?
Cheers

I don't want to sound like a whinging broken record, but allow me the privilege this time; why is it that all of these lifeless, one dimensional buildings (usually student accommodation) end up being built at the expense of character/heritage buildings that even when in a poor state have more stree...

Talk about a staggering statistic.

I’d be surprised if this gets up. I reckon the cranker is one of the only buildings/institutions in Adelaide that would result in genuine unrest if it was about to be bulldozed.

Re: The Housing Crisis
It’s this exact over financialised approach that has us in this mess. I don’t think people realise that our fetishisation with residential property is very unique to Australia. Housing is shelter primarily, not an investment. Just consider the fact that our favourite investment as aussies is a high...

Re: The Housing Crisis
With all due respect, people that say that negative gearing isn’t a factor in the crisis and say something like “it’s a supply issue” have no idea what they are talking about. The other side of the economic equation is demand, and negative gearing greatly increases investor demand in this country. J...

Re: The Housing Crisis
Get rid of (grandfather) negative gearing, allow much more intensive development around key corridors, transport hubs and employment centres and you’ll fix half the problem.

Spicy take: politicians in general are underpaid. Follow up point, the governor isn’t a real politician and that is a ridiculous amount of coin for a largely ceremonial role.

Re: The Housing Crisis
Supply and demand. Except due to the past 25 years of fucked up policies that have actively encouraged people to buy multiple properties, it means the demand has increased beyond population growth, even as we haven't been building enough new housing stock even to account for population growth. its ...
