[SWP] Re: 10 Anzac Highway | Forestville | Mixed Use

Went past this site today - workers are back and it appears to be full steam ahead. I'll be very interested to see how this one comes together, especially the "rooftop urban farm". All up, the development will feature 250 apartments and 71 terrace homes, with the market square – The Agora ...

Re: The Housing Crisis

You don't need to wipe out negative gearing in one go. You can just slowly reduce its effectiveness . No shocks and slow pressure against holding property as a primary investment. I think this is exactly what Chalmers was considering before he was, presumably, told to pull his head in by those in t...

Re: The Housing Crisis

I think that's about a sudden housing market crash. Didn't something like that happen in the US in recent memory? Is there anything the government can do to bring prices/costs down gradually? Supposedly one of the big factors that's helped push prices to these absurd levels is the cost of building ...

Re: The Housing Crisis

Latest CoreLogic data. It's wild to me that Adelaide prices are now so much higher than Melbourne. I realise there was a surge of investor interest in Adelaide when we were a cheaper option than the Eastern states, but we're now the third highest in the country. I wonder if we'll see an exodus of yo...

Speaking of which, I'll just leave these here... Home ownership is becoming increasingly unaffordable, and the states should work...

Re: The Housing Crisis

That's exactly the point made in the video. He isn't arguing for house prices to drop, rather highlighting that the housing minister just admitted the government "wants to see sustainable price growth " (as opposed to flat lining or stablisation). She also at no point defines "sustain...

Re: The Housing Crisis

Agreed. How about looking overseas to see what is working there, e.g. Norway. And it's not just young people/low income/welfare recipients who can't afford to buy. Single income households, especially those with children, are also screwed. First home buyers need to be given some kind of advantage th...

Re: The Housing Crisis

So essentially: "young people might want housing to be affordable for them but that's not the view of our government".

Oh dear.
